Buyers Remorse, Does Piracy Provide Better Service Than the Games Companies?
Comment
If only there were some kind of 'disc' suitable for storing programs, which could be made available in some kind of high street 'shop'. That would allow you the convenience of popping in and simply 'buying the disc', rather than waiting for downloads. Maybe someday - eh ?

COMPUTER BUYER RIP: Passing of a Genre...
Comment
The March 2009 edition of Computer Buyer will be the last issue ever. Having joined MESH at the back end of 1994, the first system I ever spec-ed for review was a P75 machine for a young staff writer called Paul Saunders. It appeared in the February 1995 issue and got a Recommended award, complete ...

BNP List Leaked: Ho Ho Ho...
Comment
I was so busy yesterday, that this story broke and I did not even notice However, I caught up this morning and was LMAO a lot at the idea that these people thought it was a good idea to sign up to a database - secure in the knowledge that their 'out of date by 2 centuries' thinking would be safely ...

G4Saurus: How Much Time and Effort ?
Comment
Not 100% true... ...but I'd have to agree with "It's much more fun to kick the opposition than almost anything else you can think of - including promoting your own products"... ...but the 'pinacle' is when they kick back and it goes to all out war That's fun for the combatants - and the ...

OK - no one at HQ is admitting responsibility - but this is a cracker and took some doing on the production side... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqEzyvvc6o8 Can anyone name the guilty ?

Piracy No Longer an Excuse for Low Budgets
Comment
The area where I think 'piracy' evaporates (morally, for me at least) is where I have paid money for some kind of service and - as part of that service - the provider gets to choose WHEN I can watch or listen to a certain broadcast As long as I am not redistributing (key point for me), but simply ...

Fi7EPOWER: Triumph of the Local Hero
Comment
Can't sell them yet - so we are safe for about 2 weeks The idea with the Fi7EPOWER is to win the 'Le Mans 72 hour Race' and not the Santa Pod 400m Nitro Burning Sprint... ...mainly because we think the SPEC record has a chance of standing for more than 10 minutes Come on you 'Helsinki Hackers', ...

Fi7EPOWER: Triumph of the Local Hero

Creating hotrods that blaze 400 metres down a track before burning out is one kind of fast. Another is the 70 lap extraveganza of Formula One. However, when it comes to translating 'what you see on the track into your expectation for a car you can drive yourself', the 24-hour Le Mans race sticks in ...

Vista 64, I7, Memory and Layout/Management...
Comment
When I was at ATI, I remember the driver team's joy at realising that by changing the memory map for each game - they could pick up double-digit improvements in performance e.g. for UT they would lay out the AA, texture etc area one way - and a differet way for HL2 etc - and between all of these ...

Dear Memory-Man: With I7, is 6GB, 8GB or 9GB Correct ?
Comment
When OCZ et al started looking at shipping 3GB blister packs of memory for 32-bit Windows, I thought 'Bonza!' - at last we have some common sense I was listening to Ogden's drunken mumblings last week and he seemed convinced that 6GB (Corsair, naturally!) was the way to go for Vista 64 on an i7 In ...

The State of Intel and Enthusiast Users
Comment
New tech will always cost a bit, but it's not like Intel will stop making the E7200, Q6600 and Q9550 overnight - they still have a romping line up at every price point I'd really move AMD to hit back - otherwise it's like watching a guy with a knife in a gun fight When the first Deneb stories came ...

What a beautifully constructed wind-up posting You get the highest award possible... AMD have 1 last 'benchmark' left - and that is Sandra... ...so how do Intel battle against that ? Simple, they use Quick Path Innit ! There might be parts of the world where the i7 chips look expensive, ...

4650 Vs X1900XTX (with 'agog' but Not Much Science)

When launched in January 2006, Jon Peddie described the X1900XTX as "...the fastest graphics card, ATI have made it available immediately at launch and in good quantities around the world. We expect this new board to be very well received" The cooler was a 'stonking great ...
