Ever since IPC took over Trusted Reviews, I've been a little concerned as to the Future of Bit-Tech, so it's great news to hear today that Dennis Publishing has acquired them for undisclosed amount.

This is certainly great news for Bit-Tech and I hope to see some expansion in the near future (and an increase in freelance rates :P). For the moment it seems they will be continuing in their Ascot offices, but from what I know of Dennis - I imagine it won't stay this way for long.

The question on my mind, is how will this new purchase affect Custom PC and will we be seeing any collaboration between the two publications? CPC has been making quite a push online - will we see this squashed to maintain the print/web split of this niche market?

Let's just hope Dennis don't start forcing Bit-Tech to use Dennis Interactive and can maintain the independence that makes them what they are. Congratulations chaps!

Wow, great news - Dennis has had a long history of online cock-ups, so quite, let's hope the dev teams stay independent! Maybe bit-tech might influence a little on the flip side though ;)

No mention of the figure it went for?

I have it under good authority that it was at LEAST two pounds fifty.

Have to say that the stress of the merger has affected Smalley's looks recently...

...but he seemed in good spirits as the ink dried on the contract...

I think it's a great move for bit-tech going forwards, as there was a limit to how much we could grow on our own. Dennis is arguably the leading IT publisher in the UK and there's a lot of compatibility with the existing brands in its technology portfolio. We couldn't have got to what I believe is a massive step for the publication without the dedication and hard work shown by the entire team - I can't thank them enough for their hard work and I'm proud to lead an incredibly dedicated and talented team. As many of you may already know, Dennis Publishing (which owns Custom PC and its associated website) bought the UK tech site Bit-Tech last year. With such a large amount of crossover between the two publications' subject matter, we've decided that it would make much more sense to focus our online efforts on Bit-Tech, instead of the original Custom PC website.

As such, the forums on the original website have now been closed, and we'd very much like to invite you to join the forums at Bit-Tech, where you'll find a much larger Web community, as well as new sections for discussing Custom PC magazine and our folding team. You'll also find loads of new articles and stories on Bit-Tech, with plenty of input from the Custom PC staff.

Don't worry - Custom PC the magazine is very much alive and well, and we hope to make it even better with the input of Bit-Tech's talented staff. With both a high-quality magazine, and a high-quality (and much larger) website, we hope that both Custom PC and Bit-Tech will continue to bring you well-written, informative and in-depth coverage of PC hardware and technology in both print and on the Web. For more information, read this message from Custom PC's editor Alex Watson, and we hope to see you on Bit-Tech.

    Saw that coming!
